The tigerfish is one of Africa's most impressive predatory fish, known for its enormous speed, distinctive sharp teeth, and muscular physique. Hydrocynus vittatus exudes pure power and is an absolute eye-catcher in very large aquariums. Despite its aggressive reputation, it exhibits controlled, targeted hunting behavior when given sufficient space.

This species requires an extreme amount of swimming space, strong currents, and excellent water quality. Group keeping is only possible in very large tanks, as intraspecific aggression can occur. Due to its final size and active hunting behavior, the tigerfish is exclusively suitable for experienced aquarists with appropriate technology and space.
