Platinum Redtail Catfish (Phractocephalus hemioliopterus "Platinum") RARE

The Redtail Catfish (Phractocephalus hemioliopterus) is one of the most famous and impressive freshwater catfishes in the world. With its high-contrast coloration, massive build, and intensely red caudal fin, it is a true eye-catcher in large aquariums. This species originates from the Amazon basin and is among the largest freshwater fish in South America.

Young animals, such as the captive-bred specimens offered here, already show the typical pattern of a dark upper side, light underside, and striking, bright red caudal fin. Phractocephalus hemioliopterus is peaceful towards fish of similar size, but due to its adult size, it can only be kept permanently in very large aquariums or display tanks.

🍽️ Feeding:
The Redtail Catfish is an omnivore with a preference for animal food. Frozen and live foods such as Mysis, Krill, shrimp, or fish pieces are ideal. Juveniles also eat food tablets and sinking granules. A varied, high-quality diet promotes strong growth and intense colors.

💡 Tip:
Phractocephalus hemioliopterus grows very quickly and requires a very large tank after a short time. Strong filtration, regular water changes, and plenty of space are essential. Best kept alone or with robust large fish.
