The Red Scat is a particularly attractive color variant of the well-known Scat fish, captivating with its vibrant red-orange base color and dark, contrasting spots. Scatophagus argus atromaculatus originates from coastal brackish water zones and river estuaries in Southeast Asia and Australia, and impresses with its lively schooling behavior and high adaptability.

This species is active, robust, and very sociable. Red Scats should definitely be kept in groups, as this is the only way they will display their natural social behavior. Juveniles mostly live in brackish water, while adult fish increasingly prefer higher salinity levels, up to marine water. A large aquarium with plenty of swimming space and stable water parameters is crucial for long-term successful keeping.
