The Giant Devil Catfish (Bagarius yarrelli), also known as Goonch or River Monster, is one of the largest and most fascinating freshwater catfish in the world. This impressive species originates from the torrential rivers of South and Southeast Asia and is a true giant among predatory catfish. With its massive, flat body, broad head, and powerful musculature, it appears like a relic from another era.

In its native habitat, the rivers of the Indus, Ganges, and Mekong systems, Bagarius yarrelli lives at the bottom of fast-flowing, oxygen-rich waters. It is a territorial loner and exhibits natural hunting behavior – a fish for experienced aquarists with adequate space.

🌿 Characteristics & Keeping:

💡 Tip:
Bagarius yarrelli requires extremely oxygen-rich water and strong current. Powerful filtration, cooling, and regular water changes are indispensable. This species is exclusively suitable for experienced large catfish keepers or display tanks.

The Giant Devil Catfish (Bagarius yarrelli) is an imposing, rare large catfish for specialists – a real highlight for large aquariums with current and plenty of space.
