The Paugy's elephantnose fish is a fascinating bottom-dweller from West Africa, impressive with its elegant, elongated body shape and its special ability to orient itself with electrical impulses. This rarely kept mormyrid species appears almost mysterious and enriches natural aquariums with its calm, active presence.

Hippopotamyrus paugyi prefers calm tanks with fine sand substrate, many hiding places, and shaded areas. It is sensitive to water parameters, but in a suitable environment, it exhibits interesting social behavior and can be kept in small groups.
