The Nile pufferfish is one of the largest and most impressive freshwater pufferfish of all. With its robust physique, contrasting black and yellow markings, and watchful gaze, Tetraodon fahaka is a real eye-catcher. This species originates from the Nile and Chad basins in Africa and is known for its high intelligence, pronounced territorial behavior, and close interaction with its keeper.

The Nile pufferfish is a pronounced solitary creature and should generally be kept alone. It usually exhibits highly aggressive behavior towards other fish. A richly structured environment with roots, stones, and clearly defined territories is important to avoid stress. Due to its strong beak-like teeth, it regularly needs hard-shelled food to prevent dental problems.
