The hook-plate characin (Myloplus rubripinnis) is a spectacular, disc-shaped large characin from the Amazon basin. As a wild-caught specimen, this species shows particularly strong red coloration on its fins, clear silver reflections, and an impressively high, discus-like body shape.

With a maximum size of 20–25 cm, Myloplus rubripinnis is one of the larger disc characins, but – typical for Myloplus – it remains peaceful, calm, and very social. In groups, it shows its full potential: harmonious swimming, more intense colors, and clear hierarchies.
