African Snakehead

African Snakehead (Parachanna obscura)

The African Snakehead originates from West and Central Africa and is one of the robust, large-growing representatives of its genus. It exhibits distinct predatory behavior and requires a lot of space.

Care Instructions:

• Max Size: Up to approx. 40–50 cm

• Water Parameters: Temperature 22–28 °C, pH 6.0–7.5

• Food: Carnivorous – smaller fish, crustaceans, frozen or live food

• Behavior: Territorial and sometimes aggressive, especially towards conspecifics; individual housing usually recommended

Keeping Notes:

• Minimum Aquarium Edge Length: approx. 200–250 cm or longer

• Aquarium with plenty of structure, sand or fine substrate, roots, branches, and caves

• Well-covered aquarium – snakeheads are very prone to jumping

• Only suitable for experienced aquarists
