The Calcinus elegans is a highly decorative hermit crab from the Indo-Pacific. Its bright blue legs with orange accents are particularly striking, making it a real eye-catcher in a saltwater aquarium. In addition to its attractive appearance, it is also a useful aquarium inhabitant that actively helps clean the tank.
Origin:
Indo-Pacific – including Red Sea, Indonesia, Philippines to Central Pacific
Temperature range:
24–28 °C (tropical saltwater aquarium)
Care:
The blue-legged hermit crab is peaceful, very active and well suited for reef aquariums. It constantly roams the aquarium in search of food scraps, algae and organic matter, thus contributing to the cleanliness of the system. A sufficient supply of suitable snail shells is important, as it regularly changes its home.
Note:
In times of food scarcity, it may harass smaller snails or very weak animals, so ensure adequate feeding and suitable companionship.
