The Ancistrus cf. cirrhosus "Red" is a plant and growth eater. It eats algae, but also readily accepts spirulina, algae wafers, vegetable chips, blanched cucumber, zucchini or spinach, as well as fine frozen food. A balanced, plant-rich diet ensures brightly intense colors.

An aquarium with many roots, hiding places, and calm tank mates is ideal. The Red Bristlenose Pleco prefers slightly subdued light and shows its natural behavior particularly at dusk.
