Aioliops megastigma

The Largespot Goby (Aioliops megastigma) is a small goby from the Gobiidae family, found in the tropical coral reefs of the Indo-Pacific. It gets its English name from the striking black eyespot (ocellus) on its caudal fin, which is presumed to deter predators. The species reaches a maximum body length of about 4 cm and prefers to stay just above the seabed or among branching corals.

In marine aquariums, the Largespot Goby is considered a calm and peaceful reef inhabitant. It is suitable for well-established reef aquariums with numerous hiding places and a diverse microfauna.

It accepts fine frozen food, newly hatched artemia, copepods, and other zooplankton. With its natural behavior and subtle, elegant appearance, it is an interesting species for aquarists who value rarely kept and naturally living reef inhabitants.
