Acanthurus pyroferus – Mimic Tang

The Acanthurus pyroferus is a fascinating surgeonfish from the Indo-Pacific, particularly known for its exceptional mimicry. Juveniles often imitate the appearance of various dwarf angelfish to protect themselves from predators. As they mature, the species develops into an attractive surgeonfish with a brown to olive-green base color and striking orange accents.

Its interesting color development and the exceptional imitative behavior of the juveniles make it a particularly popular species among marine aquarists.
