Acanthurus nigrofuscus – Brown Surgeonfish

The Acanthurus nigrofuscus is a robust and active surgeonfish from the coral reefs of the Indo-Pacific. Its predominantly brown to grey-brown coloration is complemented by fine line drawings and subtle blue accents on its fins. As a diligent algae eater, it makes a valuable contribution to the natural maintenance of a reef aquarium.

The Brown Surgeonfish is considered relatively resilient and adaptable. It requires sufficient swimming space, good water quality, and a varied diet with a high proportion of plant matter. In well-structured reef aquariums, it exhibits active behavior and usually coexists peacefully with other fish species. Its natural preference for algae makes it a useful and attractive inhabitant of larger marine aquariums.
