Acanthurus nigricans – Whitecheek Surgeonfish

The Acanthurus nigricans is a colorful surgeonfish from the tropical reefs of the Indo-Pacific. Its deep black body coloration is impressively complemented by striking white cheeks, a bright yellow dorsal area, and shimmering blue accents. Thanks to its exceptional coloring, it is one of the most sought-after surgeonfish for sophisticated marine aquariums.

The Whitecheek Tang requires plenty of swimming space, very stable water parameters, and a varied, predominantly plant-based diet. Like other members of the genus Acanthurus, it can be sensitive to stress and parasite infestation and should therefore only be kept in well-established aquariums. Under optimal conditions, it develops into an active and impressive inhabitant of larger reef aquariums.
