Acanthurus mata – Elongate Surgeonfish

The Acanthurus mata is an impressive large surgeonfish from the coral reefs of the Indo-Pacific. Characteristic features include its elongated body, prominent forehead, and attractive blue and yellow coloration. With its elegant appearance and active swimming behavior, it quickly becomes an eye-catcher in generously sized marine aquariums.

Due to its size and pronounced need for movement, the elongated surgeonfish requires a lot of swimming space. A varied diet and stable water parameters are crucial for successful long-term keeping. In sufficiently large aquariums, it usually exhibits peaceful behavior towards other fish species and is particularly suitable for experienced marine aquarists with appropriately sized setups.
