The Acanthurus leucosternon is one of the most beautiful and popular surgeonfish in marine aquaristics. Its intense blue body coloration, the contrasting white chest area, and the bright yellow dorsal fin make it a spectacular eye-catcher in any reef aquarium. Its active swimming behavior and elegant appearance add additional dynamism to the aquarium.
Origin: Indian Ocean
Final size: up to approx. 23 cm
Aquarium: from approx. 600 liters
Temperature: 24–27 °C
Diet: Algae, growth, plant-based food, frozen and flake food
Care: Medium to demanding
The powder blue tang requires plenty of swimming space, excellent water quality, and a varied, predominantly plant-based diet. It is considered more sensitive to stress and parasites than many other surgeonfish species and should therefore only be kept in well-established aquariums. Under optimal conditions, it develops into a magnificent and long-lived inhabitant of larger reef aquariums.
